Apprenticeships at Codeweavers: An inside look
At Codeweavers and Cox Automotive, investing in our people is a top priority. One of the ways we do this, is by offering apprenticeships that help employees develop their skills, while gaining valuable hands-on experience.
To shed light on how this works in practice, we spoke with one of our current Codeweavers apprentices about their experience in the program.
Meet our apprentice: Ben Dixon, Head of Corporate Accounts - Digital Retail
What apprenticeship are you currently doing?
I’m currently undertaking a Level 5 qualification for Operations or Departmental Managers.
How did you get involved in the apprenticeship? What was the process like?
I was looking for development opportunities and spoke with HR, who then directed me to Cox Automotive’s learning team. From there, I was introduced to Remit Training which supports the business’s development initiative. Soon after, I was onboarded onto the course.
What motivated you to start this journey?
Before enrolling in the apprenticeship, I had recently stepped into my first leadership role. I wanted to strengthen my leadership skills and improve my relationship with my team, making this the perfect opportunity to learn and grow.
Support and growth at Codeweavers and Cox Automotive
How has Cox Automotive and Codeweavers supported you throughout the process?
I’ve received invaluable support from both Codeweavers and Cox Automotive.
In particular, the workshops have allowed me to connect with others across the wider Cox Automotive business, who are also undertaking apprenticeships, creating a collaborative learning environment.
I’ve also been given time away from my daily role to focus on coursework and assignments, which has been great. It’s really helped me deeply understand and implement what I’ve learned in real-time.
How do you feel about the experience so far?
This apprenticeship has been a transformative experience for me. I’ve felt empowered to apply my new knowledge from the get-go, which has made a real difference in my leadership approach.
I’ve found that work-based apprenticeships offer a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop while continuing to contribute to the business, and I’d encourage anyone interested to explore them.
The bigger picture: Investing in leadership
Cox Automotive has recently partnered with Remit Training to roll out a Manager Essentials programme for all people managers, across all it’s service and product areas.
This initiative aims to inspire and equip managers with the skills needed to become effective leaders. By fostering a culture of continuous learning, we’re committed to developing strong leadership across the organisation.
We know however that traditional learning isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Apprenticeships are a great alternative which offer a unique opportunity to develop skills in a hands-on environment, while receiving structured learning and support – and they’re not just for school leavers!
Whether you're stepping into a new role, or looking to refine your skills, programs like these can be a game-changer.
